Imagine walking into the most beautiful neighborhood gem that’s in your own backyard that you had no idea existed; that’s exactly how I felt walking into Kitchen Six in Tucker, GA last week. The restaurant is tucked away in the heart of North Decatur, amongst some of Decatur’s other secret gems. Kitchen Six is an intimate restaurant with a rustic feel and a hint of southern charm. I attended the Homespun Pop-Up Event at Kitchen Six last Sunday evening. Homespun has a unique advantage on the hospitality industry. The catering and chef service was founded in 2012 based on the mission to bringing community back to the table. Executive Chef of Kitchen Six Jason Jimenez co-founded Homespun with his wife Jamie Jimenez.
Through Homespun the couple has hosted several events since the conception in 2016. The night started with an Iced Tea Sangria which was not only amazing but refreshing.
Halfway through the night Executive Chef Jason took the time to give a little back story of Homespun and introduce Chef Lizzie Williams, the featured chef for the evening. Chef Lizzie (who by the way is also planning a wedding) talked through her background and gave us a sneak peek of what to expect from the dishes of the night.
A Pimento Cheese hors d’oeuvre and Lemon Basil Popcorn with Parmesan started the night and the conversations.
The next course to follow was a Dandelion and Mixed Green Salad.
This was followed by the main course. The third course featured a Peach Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Thyme and Sweet Onion Puree.
The accompanying sides were a Summer Veggie Risotto with Parmesan and Grilled Asparagus with Preserved Lemon & Shallot Confit.
Your mouth should be watering after just hearing about those delicious dishes, but if that wasn’t enough the finale was a Banana Pudding with a Housemade Shortbread Cookie and Toasted Meringue.
The meal was served family style so you’ll have plenty of time to chat it up with your table buddies as you’re passing dishes lazy Susan style. The night continued with great conversation amongst my new-found dining buddies, wine that kept flowing, and an introduction to the team of amazing chefs that helped make this night memorable. Homespun is a dining experience like no other; Chef Jason and Chef Lizzie have really found a way to bring hospitality, and local, fresh ingredients from their kitchen to your table. If you’re looking for a unique dining experience where meeting new friends, having a handcrafted cocktail and expanding your palate is a requirement then Homespun is the dining experience for you.
