Sure, wine is nice on its own. But do you know what’s better, a wine tasting. I had the pleasure of attending the Wahoo! Grill Wine Tasting- A trip thru Spain. Allow me to give you a little background about the restaurant. Wahoo! Grill is a neighborhood favorite offering an eclectic, creative menu prepared with a Southern flair. Its cozy, intimate atmosphere and open kitchen concept created an extraordinary dining experience. The wine tasting was offered on Wednesday, March 1st with seating’s between 5-6:30 PM.
Wine expert Nick walked me through the night including a reception wine and three wines all notably selected because of their Spanish influence. The night started with the NV Pere Ventura Brut Cava Tresor. The Cava was followed by a Shrimp-Mussel Paella that was nicely paired with Gotas de Mar Albariño. The Paella integrated Calaspara Rice, tomato-saffron broth and balanced the tasting perfectly.

The next wine, Scala Dei Garnatxa was paired with a Charcutería. The Charcutería plate featured chorizo, St. Simón cheese, raspberry-thyme-red wine jam, and grilled bread. The highlight of this dish was definitely the thyme-red wine jam, the jam balanced the cheese and chorizo perfectly.
Lastly, I indulged in the Catalan Short Rib Stew that was accompanied by Scala Dei Priorat. The Catalan Short Rib Stew was my absolute favorite. This dish integrated mushrooms, toasted almonds, and garlic. The surprise factor was the toasted almond that gave the dish a sweet and savory flavor. Wahoo! Grill ‘s Wine Tasting was an event to remember. I even stayed after the event to enjoy some dinner.
