I didn’t realize how much I was missing out on by not following Sprouts Farmers Market closer. Sprouts Farmers Market is like a dream to a foodie; organic food, fresh produce, and bulk food. I was invited to an interactive cooking demo hosted by Sprouts and Food Network Chef Tregaye Fraser at Cook’s Warehouse. Needless to say the night was awesome as it combined three of my favorites; cocktails (peach bellini’s to be exact), food and The Food Network (well not exactly the whole network lol). Anyone who knows me very well knows that I am an avid Food Network watcher and honestly I’m down right obsessed. So the opportunity to meet a Food Network chef was beyond words for me!
Chef Tregaye was the real deal and very personable. You may best know her as the winner of season 12 of The Next Food Network Star. She’s also the co-host of The Kitchen Sink and the winner and two time competitor of Cutthroat Kitchen and Guy’s Grocery Games. Her personality dominated the room and definitely came through in her cooking. Now I know what you are thinking how was the food?
Chef Tregaye showed us how to prepare some delicious summer seafood recipes. First up was her signature Shrimp Grit Cake. The grits had shrimp in it, is that only mind-blowing to me? My first question was how did she get the shrimps in the grit cake, my second question was how did she make it taste so delicious. The shrimp was seared perfectly and the girt cake was topped with a creamy lobster sauce. She also showed up how to prepare a mahi mahi and cod fish taco topped with a corn guacamole and pico salsa. After her demonstration I quickly realized the night was not over after Chef Tregaye informed us that we would now be preparing these same dishes for her in a real Food Network competition style. All attendees were broken up into teams and we were given 30 minutes to prepare a mahi mahi and cod fish taco for Chef Tregaye to judge and choose a winning team.
Again if you know me you know I was overjoyed to be participating in a Food Network style competition. First and foremost as far as I am concerned I’m a trained cook. Secondly, in my head I should have my own Food Network show. Thirdly, love competition, but I especially LOVE a competition with food! After being broken into teams I started with a good yoga stretch and jumped right into the battle. I had Desiree, Carmen, and Linda on my team . We battled till the end, danced a little, Instagram lived a lot and even did some actual cooking. In the end we were defeated, but really we are still winners. The night ended with group photos and Chef Tregaye being transparent about her love of food and the impact it has made on her life.
All ingredients used in the demonstration came from Sprouts Farmers Market. Each attendee also received a $100 gift card to Sprouts and a Sprouts Branded goodie bag filled with their latest products. I really enjoyed the event and I can say that I channeled my inner chef. Thank you again to Sprouts Farmers Market, Cook’s Warehouse and Chef Tregaye for an awesome event!
